Waterloo, Canada - Nov. 6, 2008…Bioinformatics Solutions Inc. has announced the release of RAPTOR 4.2, a protein threading software package, ranked as one of the very top servers in CASP8 (Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction 2008) for all targets, for the fourth consecutive competition.

RAPTOR accurately predicts protein structures by threading a query protein sequence through structure template libraries. The latest edition of RAPTOR, version 4.2, offers a new internal 3D structure modeling application to eliminate the need for expensive third-party Modelling software. Further RAPTOR applications include three different threading engines and a homology search module (PSI-BLAST based).

CASP is a community-wide competition to advance the field of protein structure prediction taking place every two years since 1994. Ranking for this competition is based on more than 80 protein structure prediction servers worldwide. Protein structures that are either expected to be solved shortly or that have been recently solved, yet to be released to the public are used as targets for the prediction. Each server’s performance is measured by the sum of its prediction quality scores for all targets. Several assessment groups perform independent rankings. According to the ranking list generated by TM-score, RAPTOR is placed 2nd among all the servers. The well-known ROBETTA server is ranked number 5 in the same list.

RAPTOR first appeared in CAFASP3 (CASP5) in 2002 and was ranked number one in the individual server group for that year. Since then, RAPTOR has actively participated in every CASP and received consistently top rankings. The RAPTOR software package is provided by Bioinformatics Solutions Inc.

More information about RAPTOR including a 30-day evaluation license, please contact Advanced Labs.

Singapore - Feb. 6, 2008…Chemical inventory management has been somewhat neglected by software developers because chemical stockrooms are not regulated by Government agencies even in pharmaceutical companies. The rise in cost of chemicals and reagents as well as the trend towards a paperless office require that laboratory personnel track inventory electronically.

iCHEMS integrates a robust chemical information database management system with a front-end interface focusing on the cabinet. The highlight of the software is that it tracks the usage of chemicals robustly. Similar to the way library books are checked-in and checked-out, the system not only captures, creates, and stores information of any new or existing laboratory chemicals, but also it executes and maintains it in a real-time and consistent manner.

iCHEMS reduces the hassle of manual inventory management in hard copies, saving time, space and effort and thereby increase the efficiency of the entire laboratory. In addition, the system stores all audit history and is CFR 21 Part 11 compliant. It is designed for use by universities, Government agencies, and private research laboratories.

iCHEMS was developed by our partner KOOPrime Pte Ltd. Please contact Advanced Labs for more information.

Waterloo, Canada - July 10, 2007…BSI (Bioinformatics Solutions Inc.) announced today, their much anticipated release of PEAKS 4.5 for peptide mass spectrometry analysis. PEAKS, known for its leadership role in de novo sequencing (sequencing of peptides not present in any database) is once again guiding tandem mass spectrometry researchers into in a new era of data analysis through sequence reconstruction. Accurate sequence reconstruction is performed by the built in SPIDER tool, which has been demonstrated to increase peptide findings by upwards of approximately 20%.

Other cutting-edge enhancements to PEAKS help researchers to identify peptides using predicted retention time. PEAKS provides all of the necessary tools for superior peptide sequence derivation and protein identification from tandem MS/MS spectra - all within an intuitive graphical interface. PEAKS Studio 4.5 provides fast, accurate results for spectra from both sequenced and unsequenced organisms. Instrument Capabilities: Researchers are now fully capable of processing raw data, straight from their instruments (Agilent, Bruker, Shimadzu, Thermo and Waters to name a few).

Here is what BSI has bundled into PEAKS 4.5:

10% - 30% improvement in de novo sequencing accuracy on ion-trap data.

Improvements to the inChorus search engine:

Better integration with Sequest and Mascot - searches can be launched from inChorus, and/or existing results imported.

Existing results from any search engine can be loaded in (including PEAKS), avoiding having to repeat the search.

A separate local database is defined for recompiling the results based on peptides from all search engines.

The new RSD metric is available for all results, regardless of search engine.

Improvements to instrument flexibility

Any combination of mass analyzer, fragmentation (incl. ETD) and ion source can be custom configured.

For ease of use, PEAKS will automatically check the data to detect the scan mode.

A new, revolutionary tool in SPIDER allows you to not only find homologous peptides, but also reconstruct the real sequence, confirming mutation and correcting de novo sequencing errors.

Retention time prediction: an RT is predicted for each peptide, and you can filter search results by (realRT – predictedRT).

Data quality score now available, allowing a second evaluation of sequencing results trustworthyness.

All parameters (start to finish) plus user’s notes included on result export.

Improved charge and mono-isotopic peak picking mean even better coverage.

Spectra can be exported to SVG, a standard graphics format, so you can move and resize parts of the picture.

Please contact Advanced Labs for a demo or a quotation.

Melbourne, Australia - June 18, 2007…Clarinox Technologies Pty Ltd, home of wireless and embedded systems solutions, in collaboration with Edel Mikroelektronik announces the ClarinoxEdel Smart Sensor range of products.

The ClarinoxEdel Smart Sensor System is a low-power sensor system comprised of smart tags, smart readers, and smart software. The system can be used to measure, log and store parameters such as environmental temperature or humidity. As tags are active they can also form part of an on/off control system. Applications range from intelligent inventory, depot management, agricultural applications, industrial climatic monitoring to item and asset tracking the ClarinoxEdel Smart Sensor System makes life easier for developers.

The ClarinoxEdel range complements Clarinox’s philosophy of providing designers the ability to readily add technologies to their designs - now BluetoothTM , RFID, and the ClarinoxEdel technologies can easily be added. Modern complex electronic device designs require the selection of the most appropriate hardware, RTOS, middleware, drivers and protocols to combine neatly to provide the best base for the application layer development. This task can be quite complex and often needs to be completely redone for the next design. Middleware from Clarinox Technologies allows much greater reuse of application layer for the next project and allows greater flexibility to change target within the design cycle should design criteria change. This results in large savings for companies developing complex wireless electronics.

About Clarinox Technologies Pty Ltd

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Clarinox provides wireless and embedded systems solutions, including both digital hardware design and software development, with expertise covering many processors and real time operating systems, Bluetooth™ Protocol Stacks with Simplest Ever API (C++/C), Device Driver Development and Porting Services. Visit Clarinox Technologies at CommunicAsia 2007 (Booth 3J1-03).

(BSI) has completed another successful ASMS Conference. Two new tools introduced were the new SPIDER, which leads to better understanding of proteins by finding mutated peptides, and inChorus, that lets you directly launch multiple search engines (including Sequest and Mascot) to get better results.

Other improvements allow you to better organize your findings, export results. In short, you can easily integrate de novo sequencing with your other tools — that’s important because you’ll never get better confirmation of peptide hits, and you’ll pick up new peptides that couldn’t be found any other way.

Posters Presented

Reconstruction of peptide sequences from de novo sequences and their homologes

Improving de novo sequencing accuracy for ion trap data in PEAKS software

Improving sequence coverage by de novo sequence homology searching with SPIDER

Optimizing data acquisition for automated de novo sequencing of peptides

Singapore, Singapore - May 14, 2007…Clarinox Technologies Pty Ltd together with Advanced Labs Pte Ltd will exhibit at CommunicAsia 2007 (June 19-22 at Singapore EXPO). You can find us at Booth #3J1-03 within the Australian National Pavilion.

Clarinox simplifies complex electronic device designs. The ClarinoxTMBlue V2.0 + EDR Bluetooth protocol is now available for an even larger range of target platforms. Designers can now easily add Bluetooth technology to their designs and have the flexibility to use their applications on other platforms.

“Modern complex electronic device designs require the selection of the most appropriate hardware, RTOS, middleware, drivers and protocols to combine neatly to provide the best base for the application layer development. This task can be quite complex and often needs to be completely redone for the next design.” Says Gokhan Tanyeri, CTO, Clarinox Technologies, “the middleware from Clarinox Technologies allows much greater reuse of application layer for the next project and allows greater flexibility to change target within the design cycle should design criteria change. This results is large savings for companies developing complex wireless electronics.”

Leutingewolde, The Netherlands - April 16, 2007…Lambert Instruments has extended the range of it’s high-speed camera product line with the “new” HI-CAM CR, gated intensified high-speed camera.

The HI-CAM CR records images up to 100,000 fps allowing recording of fast events at high time-resolution. At the same time, the HI-CAM CR offers single photon detection capability. Fast moving objects are recorded sharply by shuttering the image intensifier down to 40ns and optionally 5ns.

The dual stage image intensifier is specially designed for the use in high-speed cameras. (Photocathodes with different spectral response from the UV to the near IR are available). Enhanced maximum output brightness results in a optimal signal/noise ratio at high frame rates. The intensifier is coupled to the CMOS sensor by using tapered fiber optics that matches the intensifier to the sensor format.

Waterloo, Canada - March 26, 2007…Bioinformatics Solutions Inc. (BSI) has announced the release of RAPTOR 4.1 for Linux and Windows, the latest edition of protein threading software. RAPTOR is an innovative software tool designed to predict protein structure from protein sequence. Armed with unique integer programming algorithm, RAPTOR is capable of discovering remote structural homology for hard sequences and giving high quality prediction.

As a participant in recent CASP’s, RAPTOR has been consistently ranked in the top tier. In addition to the three threading methods proprietary to RAPTOR, the new version integrates PSI-BLAST for rapid identification of easy targets. A built-in pipeline in RAPTOR 4.1 allows users to automatically run more rigorous threading techniques if necessary. RAPTOR 4.1 is your protein structure pipeline, right out of the box.
