Cooled CCD Cameras

Apogee Instruments’ new Alta series is a whole new architecture for cooled CCD cameras. It is designed for a variety of CCDs, ranging from the smallest to those measuring 36 mm on a side with 4096 x 4096 arrays. All Alta models have both 16-bit digitization for high precision and 12-bit digitization for high throughput; it uses on-board memory for fast local sequences and preventing transfer interruptions. The Alta U Series is chosen for high throughput via USB 2.0. The Alta E Series plugs directly into the Internet with its 100bT interface and requires no local computer.

The Alta platform comes in 3 optical apertures:
• The 25 mm systems contain the small-mid size CCDs and maintain C-mount back focal distance.
• The 45 mm systems contain larger CCDs up to 28 mm on a side.
• The 63 mm systems accommodate very large CCDs such as the Kodak KAF-16801E sensor.
